Ferguson Ignites the Greater Good?

The three month old Wilson and Brown shooting event of Ferguson, Missouri has flared up once more as no trial has been issued by the grand jury. Grand juries act as a buffer to reduce the likelihood of gun-ho policemen or prosecutors bringing in criminal offenders into court. In addition, they heighten the level of fairness as one of the official rights under the Rights and Freedoms of Americans, which states that "a person must be indicted, or formally accused of a crime, by a group citizens called a 'grand jury' before he can be brought into a court for trial", and they also save time and money for attendees and government agencies. The bottom line is that grand juries are the filter that determine high-priority cases. Here's the heat, violent protestors of a primarily black community are outraged at the fact that a white man "irrationally" shooting and killing a black man was not an important enough case to receive further justice sentences and hearings. 

Whether or not the white policeman, Darren Wilson, or the black teenager, Michael Brown, was right or wrong, this man in the video speaks the reality and truth that we as a society need to change. 

Recently, Obama has finally entered the fray and voiced his opinions. He said, "First and foremost, we are a nation built on the rule of law. And so we need to accept that this decision was the grand jury’s to make...We need to recognize that the situation in Ferguson speaks to broader challenges that we still face as a nation.”

I am pleased to see such a level-headed statement uttered from the president, who is able to relate to the African American community at this time and who is viewed by many as a popular example to follow. And, right or wrong, Wilson and Brown's supporters can not deny the universal law of the grand jury. Its decision, despite being composed of nine white vs three black people, has brought those mature enough to heed the reasoning that our society must move on and work on improvement and care for culture-combined communities, respecting government authorities, and beyond. Like Michael Brown's parents said," Hurting others or destroying property is not the answer. No matter what the grand jury decides, I do not want my son's death to be in vain. I want it to lead to change, positive change." Perhaps, God might have used the Brown shooting for this very reason, to spurn us to pursue the greater good. As it says in Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose."
